How the lyrics Alfred collected first appeared in print
blank

This page features a facsimile of one of a series of installments featuring Alfred's folk song lyrics which appeared in the Wilts and Gloster Standard.

The paper serialised the songs long before they appeared in book form, this 12th part appearing on New Year's Day 1916, a full seven years before Folk Songs of the Upper Thames arrived on bookshelves.

This copy was kindly supplied by Ted and Ivy Poole of Swindon Folksingers Club and is part of a collection that includes paperwork from an Alfred Williams Festival they helped to organise in 1969.
